A math whiz from a young age, physics professor Marlene Ignacio knew in high school she had a passion for teaching. But, as her studies in math progressed into highly abstract concepts, she realized her true love was the more hands-on world of physics.
“Physics has more applications,” she said. “You can see it all around you.”
As a teacher of elite students in The Philippines, it was an adjustment to come to the U.S. and teach at a community college, she says. But, it’s an adjustment she’s felt blessed to make.
“I love community college because anyone can go and start classes,” she said, adding, “Everyone is given the same chances.”
